Following North Macedonia, Albania has now also received confirmation that it will soon obtain pre-financing under the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.
The Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, introduced by the European Commission in November 2023, aims to accelerate economic growth and bring the region’s countries closer to EU membership.
The plan includes financial support of €6 billion for the period 2024–2027, consisting of €2 billion in grants and €4 billion in favourable loans.
Through this initiative, Albania has the opportunity to enhance its economic integration with the EU.
During her visit to Tirana, Commissioner Marta Kos reiterated Albania’s commitment to European integration, stating:
"As the world changes, Albania’s unity towards the European Union remains an essential guarantee for peace, freedom, and security."
Over three days, from 12 to 14 March, the commissioner met with Albanian authorities, students, civil society representatives, and various stakeholders to discuss the country’s progress in the EU accession process - with a particular focus on key reforms and judicial principles.
"For Albania, this is a great opportunity. The EU stands by your side and fully supports your accession - let’s achieve this together," said Commissioner Kos.
