At a time when the European Union is increasingly focused on protecting democratic processes, cybersecurity, and the resilience of societies against disinformation, Serbia's Minister for European Integration, Nemanja Starović, was in Luxembourg for a meeting dedicated to the European Democracy Shield initiative.
In an interview for EUpravo Zato, Starović said that Serbia is ready to take advantage of the opportunities offered by this initiative, particularly in the areas of cybersecurity, media and digital literacy, as well as strengthening its foreign policy capacities.
"We had a very good and useful discussion today in Luxembourg on the European Democracy Shield. We stressed that the Republic of Serbia is ready to make use of the many opportunities this initiative offers, primarily in terms of raising the level of cybersecurity, media and digital literacy, and our foreign policy capacities," Starović told our portal, noting that the numerous discussions with EU member state ministers for European affairs held on the margins of the meeting were particularly important.
As he stated, European partners recognise the current reform momentum visible in Serbia.
"All of them, without exception, clearly recognise and welcome the strong reform momentum visible in Serbia, in terms of the large number of laws adopted in the National Assembly, as well as the full commitment to implementing all recommendations of the Venice Commission and ODIHR. All of this together is genuinely raising the level of optimism, and the atmosphere towards Serbia is shifting in a positive direction," the Minister for European Integration said.
Following his meetings in Luxembourg, Starović is travelling to Strasbourg, where he is scheduled to hold talks within the Parliamentary Committee on Stabilisation and Association.
He assessed that this will be an important opportunity for an exchange of views with members of the European Parliament and for continuing parliamentary cooperation between Serbia and the European Union.
"We expect a good and high-quality discussion. I am confident that, with the active participation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, the talks will take place in a constructive atmosphere and in the best possible way," Starović told our correspondent from Brussels.
