"Faced with growing global demand for electricity, particularly as a result of the development of artificial intelligence and data centres, our region has the potential to provide around 260 TWh of new renewable energy annually," Mickoski wrote in a post on his Facebook account.
Hristijan Mickoski emphasised that this represents an opportunity to create a business sector worth approximately €26 billion per year and a chance for the Western Balkans to position itself as an important partner in Europe's energy future.
North Macedonian Parliament adopts new Energy Law
In mid-May, the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia adopted a new Energy Law, laying the foundations for a sustainable and competitive energy policy. The legislation aligns the country's regulatory framework with European standards and enables greater investment in renewable energy sources.
Is Bulgaria blocking the way forward?
The Prime Minister of North Macedonia recently stated that the country is facing a serious and unfair obstacle on its path towards European Union membership. He argued that the stagnation in the accession process is the result of a bilateral dispute with Bulgaria, which in recent years has become part of the negotiations with Brussels.
North Macedonia formally began the first phase of accession negotiations with the European Union in 2022. However, without the constitutional amendments demanded by Bulgaria, the country cannot proceed to the next stage of the negotiating process.
