The Serbian Government has instructed all state authorities that, when preparing laws or secondary legislation, they must pay particular attention to the compliance of proposed regulations with the EU acquis, as well as whether the proposed legislation has been previously consulted with the European Commission.

"The monitoring of the implementation of these rules will be entrusted to the Ministry for European Integration, which has been further strengthened by this government act," the statement reads.

As explained, in the future all proponents of legislation transposing EU law will be required to obtain prior approval from the Ministry for European Integration. Without its review, it will not be possible to adopt laws and secondary legislation relevant to Serbia’s EU accession process.
