Speaking to journalists before the start of the summit, Macron said that France continues to support the new accession methodology, which enables transparent reforms and the gradual integration of the EU acquis by countries joining the European Union.
“Together with Germany, we proposed a process of gradual integration. We will discuss this with all the countries of the Western Balkans. This agenda clearly concerns our mutual relations, but it also relates to the prospects for enlargement and is extremely important from a geopolitical perspective in terms of Europe’s energy independence, security and migration routes,” Macron said.
He added that the summit would also address the Growth Plan and various bilateral issues.
The French President also said that he believes the EU will launch a series of very important reforms.
“As Europeans, we must take major steps forward by opening new negotiation clusters. I believe this is a positive moment for Serbia. Serbia is working hard and has a European future, and that is very important to us. I believe that your President and Government will take positive steps forward,” Macron stated.
