The Head of the European Union Delegation and EU Special Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ambassador Luigi Soreca, stated in Mostar that there is a visible positive atmosphere among political leaders regarding the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans and the Reform Agenda.

A Call for Unity Across All Levels of Government

"Until we formally receive the documents, we cannot comment. As the European Union, we want Bosnia and Herzegovina to keep pace with the rest of the region in reaping the significant benefits of the Growth Plan. Therefore, I appeal for unity across all levels of government in BiH to make substantial progress for the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina," Soreca said.

Regarding the conditions Bosnia and Herzegovina must meet to formally open accession negotiations, Soreca underlined that the local authorities are well aware of the EU’s expectations.

A Clear Message

"First and foremost, we expect the adoption of four laws and three key appointments, including the appointment of the chief negotiator. In recent weeks, we have all witnessed certain steps forward being made."

According to the information available, a meeting of the ruling coalition leaders is scheduled for next Monday in Mostar. "We hope these meetings will yield results, and when they do, the European Commission will assess them accordingly," Soreca emphasised.

He also underscored that the message is crystal clear:

"The doors to the European Union are open. The time is now. We expect results because we want Bosnia and Herzegovina to continue its journey towards the EU, where Bosnia and Herzegovina belongs," Soreca said.
