The Speaker of the National Assembly, Ana Brnabić was in Brussels. For EUpravo Zato she summarised the results of the visit during which she met with EU officials, Marta Kos and Gert Jan Koopman. In a statement, she highlighted that she had the opportunity to hear what commitments our country would have to fulfil on its European path to membership, but also to 'say what Belgrade thinks about it'.

However, she stressed that she and her interlocutors agreed that it is necessary to continue implementing reforms.

"Excellent meetings, as always, completely open and completely honest, and that is the most important thing. They say what they think we should do differently, and I have the opportunity to respond on behalf of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia about what is really happening in Serbia and how we see these things," she told our portal after the meetings with European officials.

Numerous laws ready for adoption

She reiterated that the reforms are important for our economy, agriculture, as well as for all our citizens.

"We remain committed to our European path and I truly expect that by June we will have a large number of laws in the process of being adopted by the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, and in this way further demonstrate our determination for full membership of the European Union. ‘And as for what happens next, that is up to the member states of the European Union,’ the Speaker of the National Assembly stated at the end of her visit to Brussels.

Venice Commission and judicial laws among the topics

Following talks with European officials, Brnabić told journalists gathered at the Serbia Mission to the EU that it was good that representatives of the Venice Commission had visited Serbia and that, once they have given their opinion, they will continue to discuss any potential amendments to the recently adopted set of judicial laws with them in a wider public debate.

'It is certainly good that the Venice Commission has come, they will give us their opinion and then we will continue to talk with the Venice Commission about any potential amendments in a wider public debate,' she said in a statement to journalists.

The Speaker of the National Assembly was on a one-day working visit to Brussels today, where she met with the European Union Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, as well as the Director-General of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy, Gert Jan Koopman.
