Recognition for Exceptional Women: Brankica Janković Receives the Prestigious Justitia Award for International Leaders

The Commissioner emphasised that it was a great honour and an exceptional recognition to receive this prestigious award, which for her represents not only a personal acknowledgement, but also confirmation that the long-standing work of the Commissioner’s Office, which she has led for ten years, has been recognised and valued at the international level.

The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, is the recipient of the prestigious international Justitia Award 2025 in the category International Leaders/Lifetime Award, which pays tribute to influential and exceptional women in the field of law for their lifetime achievements.

"I would like to thank the Women in Law Initiative for recognising the effort, commitment, and perseverance in the fight against discrimination and the work for equality of all citizens of Serbia as a lasting contribution to society and as an inspiration for generations to come," said Brankica Janković at the awards ceremony held at the University of Vienna.

The Commissioner underlined that it was a great honour and exceptional recognition to receive this prestigious award, which for her represents not only a personal acknowledgement, but also confirmation that the long-standing work of the Commissioner’s Office, which she has headed for ten years, has been recognised and valued internationally.

"Throughout all these years, we have worked with dedication, sending the message that the fight against discrimination and the commitment to equal rights are universal values of every democratic society, values for which we must constantly strive, especially in these challenging times when human rights are often under threat. This recognition is for me an additional motivation to continue fighting for true equality,"  Janković underlined.

The Commissioner also congratulated the other laureates in various categories, in particular the President of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, and Austria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Beate Meinl-Reisinger, who received the Political Game Changer Award.

She also extended her congratulations to all the nominated women, noting that each of them, through their work, perseverance and courage, shows that it is possible to change the world for the better.
